Camel Hair - an Eco Friendly, Sustainable Fibre

Camel Moulting Season, Camel Molting Season, Combing Camel Hair, Natural Shedding

How do we get camel hair? Are camels hurt in the process when you collect the hair?

These are two of the most common questions we hear from people approaching us for the first time….

We get it - you want to feel good about what you’re wearing, not guilty….

Let us assure you, Camel Hug products are sustainably sourced and environmentally friendly.

We collect our camel hair from two-humped Bactrian camels in Central Asia, who shed their hair over a six to eight week period from late spring to early summer. This is called their moulting season. During this time, camel hair fibre is collected naturally by combing, shearing and simply collecting the hair that has fallen off their bodies on to the ground. Their hair grows back when they need it again!
